It has been a difficult, challenging and thought provoking past week. Our purpose at Mission Kids is to achieve healing and justice for victims of child abuse by providing collaborative services, advocacy, leadership and education. While our stated focus is on serving children, our greater purpose is on serving all of humanity. Now, at a pivotal and painful moment in our nation, we want to state our commitment to combating abuse in any form. What we have witnessed over the past week is an unmasking of one form of pain and trauma that Mission Kids seeks to combat every day. Racism has no place in a civilized society. We believe and echo the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. when he quoted another theologian that stated “The arc of the moral universe is long but it bends towards justice.”
Mission Kids does not and shall not tolerate any discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, gender expression, age, national origin, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, in any of its activities or operations. As we remain committed to eradicating pain and promoting healing, we at Mission Kids know that our mission is rooted in our partnership with law enforcement and community-based services. We recognize the leadership shown by our law enforcement partners who have spoken out against what took place in Minneapolis and reaffirmed their commitment to serving all of our communities. We trust that our ability to work alongside all those committed to justice and healing will contribute to bending the arc towards safety, equality and healing for our children and adults.
We will continue to have difficult, meaningful and respectful conversations about bias, discrimination and inequity to ensure that we strive to access justice and healing of our children and families in Montgomery County and beyond. In order to truly understand, we will commit to listen with open hearts and open minds to our children, our families, our partners and our communities.
