Local Organizations Show Holiday Spirit With Donations to Montgomery County Child Advocacy Center
Norristown, PA, December 16, 2009 – In the spirit of giving, local businesses are taking a stand with donations towards Mission Kids, a local non-profit organization aimed at combating child abuse in Montgomery County. Clemens Family Markets, Comcast, Pottstown Area Health and Wellness Foundation, North Penn Rotary Club, the District Attorney’s office and Lynn Apfelbaum Jewelry all recently presented Mission Kids with grants to aid in their mission.
“We thank these organizations for realizing the importance of Mission Kids and in giving back to the community,” said Abbie Newman, executive director of Mission Kids. “We cannot stress how critical it is to continue to provide these young victims with the resources they need for a hopeful future and find it heartwarming to see many people who feel the same.”
The Clemens Family Corporation recently donated $25,000 towards the organization’s mission. In addition, Comcast presented Mission Kids a $20,000 grant towards creating an educational service announcement to spread community awareness on the importance of organizations such as Mission Kids. Pottstown Area Health and Wellness Foundation also contributed $15,000 for computer software and NCA Track, a software system that efficiently tracks the cases that go through Mission Kids.
Other donations included $1,500 from the North Penn Rotary Club, $700 from Lynn Apfelbaum Jewelry, and $1,200 from the District Attorney’s office, raised in honor and memory of longtime employee Sharon Wagner. Wagner worked in the DA’s office for 20 years, serving as the receptionist in the County Detective Bureau.
Mission Kids, who officially launched their services on October 7, provides a broad range of support services to child victims and their families. These services, which encourage healing and streamline the investigative process for these young victims, would not be possible without the help of local businesses and community members.
The organization also raised $35,000 through tremendous support at the “From the Heart” fundraiser with the Montgomery Child Advocacy Project (MCAP) this past October. The fundraiser, which was hosted by NBC 10! Show co-host Lori Wilson, included an evening of cocktails and cuisine at the Green Valley Country Club in Lafayette Hill. The event also featured entertainment by Gerry McCambridge, Las Vegas headliner and executive producer of the hit TV series, “The Mentalist”.
