“There are more than 9,000 illicit massage businesses — fronts for selling commercial sex — spread across every state in the United States,” according to Polaris. “For a sense of scale, consider that Starbucks now has approximately 8,222 company-operated stores in the United States.”
But of course, you won’t see a sign for the local illicit massage business on the highway sign before the exit, or looming on the horizon like the Golden Arches. “These businesses hide in plain sight, visible to those who know what to look for, and how those signs differentiate them.
