External Affairs Internship

Position Details

This part-time, volunteer intern position involves assisting the External Affairs Department to ensure that our efforts to protect and seek justice for children impacted by child abuse have a lasting, positive effect, locally and beyond.

Position Schedule and Location:

  • Must be able to work a minimum of 8 hours* (M-F) per week, between 8:30 am to 4:30 pm
    • *10-15 hours per week preferred
  • Onsite, hybrid or remote opportunities available

Interacting With:

  • Mission Kids staff
  • Children ages 4-18
  • Mission Kids Board of Directors
  • Community members including children and adults

Essential Duties & Tasks

  • Assist in research projects related to youth with problematic sexualized behaviors, child abuse, sex trafficking, and other related issues
  • Assist CEO and External Affairs team in preparing written proposals for grants, presentations and/or research projects
  • Prepare presentation materials, which could include handouts and/or PowerPoints
  • Assist CEO with special projects
  • Perform general clerical duties including, but not limited to, filing, photocopying, faxing, and mailing (if on-site only)
  • Assist with tracking and working on legislative issues
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to manage responsibilities and work independently with minimal oversight
  • String proficiency in Microsoft Suite including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel and SharePoint
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information, including responding appropriately and legally to disclosures of abuse
  • Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions
  • Versatility, flexibility and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow
  • Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels
  • Successful completion of background checks which, depending on assigned work location (remote, hybrid, or onsite), may include child abuse history, criminal history, and/or FBI clearances

Education

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant graduate degree program
