Direct Services/Program Intern

Position Details

This intern position will assist in supporting the mission of Mission Kids by engaging in various advocacy initiatives aimed at providing healing and support to the families of Montgomery County. This internship provides a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in advocacy, collaboration with our multidisciplinary partners, and direct services.

Position Schedule and Location:

  • Part-time and full-time positions available
  • Must be available to work onsite at main location in East Norriton, PA
  • Must have the ability to travel throughout Montgomery County for court hearings and community events as needed

Interacting With:

  • Mission Kids staff
  • Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) partners including law enforcement, Montgomery County Office of Children and Youth, and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office
  • Clients โ€“ children of all ages and their caregivers

Essential Duties & Tasks

  • Observing forensic interviews
  • Observing family advocates during the on-site caregiver meeting
  • Assisting family advocates with case management tasks
  • Preparing caregiver handbooks
  • Assisting with childcare for our caregiver support group
  • Joining a family advocate to court hearings
  • Representing Mission Kids at community outreach events
  • Other projects tailored to field of interest (i.e. mental health, criminal justice, case management, etc.)
  • Graduate social work internsย may be given the opportunity to have their own caseload of families to provide advocacy

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of child abuse field and comfortability discussing child abuse and trauma with both children and adults;
  • High level of maturity and the ability to work independently in an office environment;
  • Ability to interact with clients in stressful situations;
  • Strong networking skills, with the ability to interact effectively with multi-disciplinary team members including law enforcement, social workers, and prosecutors;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, as well as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft SharePoint;
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information; including responding appropriately and legally to disclosures of abuse;
  • Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions;
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm;
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow;
  • Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels;
  • Successful completion of background checks which include child abuse history, criminal history and FBI clearances;
  • Valid Driverโ€™s License and proof of auto insurance.

Education

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant degree program (e.g., education, social work, psychology, criminal justice or related field).
