Mission Kids Child Advocacy Center of Montgomery County Receives $7,500 Grant from the Green Tree Community Health Foundation

[MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA] – July 9, 2012 – The Child Advocacy Center of Montgomery County (Mission Kids) received a $7,500 grant from the Green Tree Community Health Foundation (Green Tree) in general operating support. The announcement of the grant was made by Susan M. Hansen, Ph.D., President and CEO of the Foundation, on behalf of the Board of Trustees on May 18, 2012.

Mission Kids, Montgomery County’s first and only child advocacy center, offers a comprehensive, centrally located, multidisciplinary team (MDT) response to allegations of child abuse in a dedicated, child-friendly setting to achieve justice for child victims and promote their physical and emotional well-being. According to Abbie Newman, RN, JD, Executive Director of Mission Kids, “The Green Tree funds will be used to support and expand Mission Kid’s services following its move to a larger facility in 2012.”

The MDT approach to the investigation and prosecution of child abuse cases helps minimizes additional trauma to child abuse victims following the disclosure of abuse. “Mission Kid’s VA Program provides additional support by explaining the investigative and legal process and coordinating referrals for related medical examinations, mental health evaluations and other social services as needed,” said Newman.

Mission Kid’s services encourage victims of child abuse to find the resilience to begin the healing process and look forward to a better future. Since opening its doors in 2009, Mission Kids has served over 900 of Montgomery County’s child abuse victims. For more information visit www.missionkidscac.org.
